Subwoofer bardzo dobrej klasy, lepszy od serii T czy Q. Gra lepiej m.in. od Monitor Audio RS/RX W12 czy Rel R205/R305. Konstrukcja zamknięta - wzorowa kontrola i precyzja basu - spotykana jedynie w dużo droższych subwooferach, także świetna dynamika i głębokie zejście do 16hz. Głośnik o średnicy 10" (25cm) plus wzmacniacz w klasie AB o umiarkowanej mocy -150W RMS, jednak odczuwalna moc w porównaniu do innych subwooferów jest dużo wyższa, z uwagi na głośnik o wysokiej skuteczności oraz sporą wielkość obudowy - pod względem potęgi brzmienia niewiele ustępuje np. Monitor Audio RSW12 (500W RMS, głośnik 12") i nie ustępuje w ogóle Rel T1 / T9 (300W RMS wzmacniacz, głośniki 2x 10"), natomiast przewyższa je jakością basu oraz możliwościami dokładnych regulacji. Subwoofer kosztował 800 funtów, w Polsce był niedostępny z uwagi na brak dystrybucji marki w tamtym okresie. Posiada pilota do wygodnych ustawień z miejsca odsłuchowego, wiele opcji w menu (menu dostępne zarówno z pilota lub przycisku wielofunkcyjnego na przednim panelu) - oprócz standardowych ustawień jak faza, częstotliwość odcięcia czy głośność, można m.in. w 18 stopniach wyregulować rodzaj basu jakim ma grać subwoofer, tak aby lepiej pasował do kolumn - spokojniejszy, płynniejszy lub bardziej dynamiczny, agresywny. Panel ma wyświetlacz w kolorze niebieskim, z regulowaną jasnością i czasem podświetlenia.

STRATA 5 UPGRADES QUAD 989 ELECTROSTATICS IN HI FI WORLD

This is no mean achievement for the REL considering the mid-range speed, openness and fluidity of this famous hi-fi loudspeaker, but it does identify the core virtues of tunefulness and agility that distinguish a REL sub-bass design. "Mam HI-Fi Choice z września 2004 gdzie są opisane dwa suby REl-a : Stampede i Strata 5. Pierwszy ma woofer 20cmi kosztuje 550 funtów, drugi :woofer 25cm a cena to 800 funtów. Wyższy "score" dostał Stampede: 90% (strata - 88%) a to zw zwględu na lepszy stosunek jakość/cena. Oba schodzą do 18Hz(-3db). W teście podłączano je do takich monstrów jak Tannoy TD12 przy górnym odcięciu subów na 24Hz czyli wtedy gdy TD12 przestawały być słyszalne (-3db). Najciekwasze jest to, że bas ulegał znaczącej poprawie i "the effect was sublime". Podkreślono również to, że można je doskonale zintegrować z różnymi rodzajami kolumn a to za sprawą min. bardzo dobrego systemu filtrów i nastaw"
