Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) needs no introduction. His life attracted legends from the very beginning: supposedly his uncle, Don Salvador, saved him from suffocation at birth by blowing cigar smoke into his face. Picasso’s creative vitality and artistic devotion were unrivalled. He was the founding father of several movements, and as great a genius in drawing, graphic art and sculpture as on canvas.
This study reviews his entire output, from the Blue and Rose Periods via his first Cubist works to the classical paintings and portraits of women, from anti-war paintings to the energetic and idiosyncratic work of his final decades. Fellow-artist Max Ernst once said: “There’s no one like him. He’s the great genius.” Many have shared this expert opinion on the most formidable artist of the 20th century: Pablo Picasso.
