Miss Violence is an unflinching and brutal examination of moral and societal breakdown. Masterfully directed by Alexandros Avranas, the film was widely acclaimed at the Venice Film Festival, winning Best Director and Best Actor (Themis Panou).
On the day of her 11th birthday, Angeliki jumps from the balcony of her family home, falling to her death with a smile on her face. While the police and social services investigate the reason for this apparent suicide, Angeliki s family keep insisting that it was a tragic accident. As the truth unfolds, the bonds in the family are horrifyingly exposed and shattered.
About the Director
Alexander Avranas, born in Larissa in 1977. He started studying sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1998-2001) and then he continued at the Universitat der Kunste Berlin. With his first film "Without" he won seven awards at the 49th Film Festival of Thesaloniki and suggested for the Best Director Award at the International Film Festival of Milan. On September 7th 2013 he won the Silver Lion Director at 70th Venice Film Festival for his film "Miss Violence".
